The Baiji Dolphin has been declared extinct in 2007.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION: ACTION!BLUE

The Baiji dolphin also known as the Goddess of the Yangtze River has been declared extinct. Due to traffic, pollution and the dams they werent able to survive. We need to take action to protect our rivers and oceans!

In 2010 Marinedream and AIESEC mainland China developed and implemented the ACTION!BLUE program in 69 schools along the Yangtze River. Between 2010 - 2014 Marinedream aims to have reached out through this program to 600 high schools in different places in China and set up Marinedream clubs in the schools.

Key points of ACTION!BLUE program:

  1. Facilitators go into high schools to:
    • Teach students about the threats to our oceans and rivers in 6 sessions in the schools.
    • Help student teams to develop a green project that costs less than RMB 500.
  2. These proposals are uploaded on this website and sponsors can adopt a school so that this school can actually implement this project.
  3. At the end of the semester, the best student team from each school needs to present their proposal in front of a panel with judges and they have a chance to win the ACTION!BLUE award.
  4. Marinedream clubs are established in the schools and its members need to help with selling 100 trees @ RMB 25 each year, so that we can accomplish:
    • Keeping this program free for schools
    • Planting a forest in Inner Mongolia through this program to fight against climate change
    • Creating awareness about the state of our oceans as a result of members of the Marinedream clubs talking to people about the effects of climate change on our oceans and rivers while selling these trees.

Presentation days of the project will take place second week of July each year. Facilitators come to the schools in the first semester: March - May; in the second semester: September - November To learn more about the Aqualife program, please visit the website Aqualife To learn more about the action!blue program, please visit the website ACTION!BLUE
